Overview
Miss ICT delivers all services online. This policy outlines the health and safety responsibilities Miss ICT holds towards learners, parents, and carers โ and the responsibilities of families accessing our services.
Screen Safety and Session Duration
- 1-to-1 tutoring sessions (GCSE and A Level) are a maximum of 60 minutes, with natural breaks built in for longer revision blocks
- A Level NEA Coursework sessions are 60 minutes maximum
- GCSE Exam Rescue Intensives and A Level Exam Intensives are 2 hours per session with a 10-minute comfort break included
- Arcade Live sessions are 30 minutes โ intentionally short to maintain focus and reduce screen fatigue for home-educated learners
- Parents of Arcade Live learners are encouraged to build movement and rest into the learner's day around sessions
- Arcade Home packs are designed for self-paced use; families should follow their own screen-time guidance appropriate to their child's age and needs
Environmental Requirements
Miss ICT cannot control learners' physical environments. However, we advise the following for all online sessions:
- Learners should be seated comfortably with adequate lighting
- Screens should be at eye level where possible to reduce neck and eye strain
- A stable internet connection is recommended for video sessions
- Learners should be in a quiet, private space free from significant distractions during live sessions
- For group sessions, including Arcade Live (max 3) and Intensives (max 4), learners should not be in a public space where other members of the public may be visible on camera
Mental Health and Wellbeing
Miss ICT uses a trauma-informed, SEN-aware approach across all services. Learner wellbeing is always considered alongside academic progress.
- No learner is pressured or shamed in any session; learning is always approached with patience and encouragement
- If Dee observes that a learner appears distressed, anxious, or unwell during a session, the session may be paused or ended early at no charge
- If a learner discloses a mental health concern during any session, Dee will follow the Safeguarding Policy and โ where appropriate โ signpost the parent or carer to appropriate support
- Arcade Circle is a moderated space, and any content that could be harmful to wellbeing is removed without warning
Technology Safety
- Session links are shared securely and are not publicly posted
- Miss ICT uses reputable, encrypted video platforms for all sessions
- Learners share only their coding environment during screen shares โ no personal files or other applications should be shared
- Parents are encouraged to be present during sessions for younger or more vulnerable learners
Emergency Procedures
If an emergency occurs during an online session (e.g. a learner appears to be in physical danger or distress):
- Dee will attempt to alert the parent or carer immediately
- If the learner appears to be in immediate danger and a parent cannot be reached, Dee will contact emergency services (999) and provide the learner's details as known
- All such incidents are recorded and reported in line with the Safeguarding Policy
